Vaya Health 101

We manage public funds for the prevention and treatment of mental illness, substance use disorder and intellectual/developmental disabilities in 23 western North Carolina counties. These funds come from Medicaid, state government, local county governments and the federal government (such as block grants). We primarily serve individuals who receive Medicaid, are uninsured or underinsured.

We do not provide treatment services directly. Services are provided by our contracted network of more than 600 providers and practitioners located throughout the region.

We are a N.C. local government agency headquartered in Asheville. Our regional offices are located in Sylva, Waynesville, Lenoir and Boone, with smaller offices located in approximately 12 additional counties. We currently employ about 500 individuals based throughout the western third of the state.
