Local officials, law enforcement, health care providers, and other community partners came together last week to celebrate the opening of a new walk-in center in Person County.
With support from RHA Health Services and Vaya Health, the center will primarily serve Person County residents, offering walk-in/open-access behavioral health and crisis services, peer support services, medication management, and outpatient therapy. It will provide services to help people experiencing a behavioral health crisis in the same way an urgent care clinic serves people who need immediate help for physical health issues.
“This is such a vital component of what we do to serve the people of Person County and Roxboro,” said David L. Hess, Chief of Police for the city of Roxboro.
Gordon Powell, Chair of the Person County Board of County Commissioners, spoke during the event.
“This location is outstanding… Our citizens who are in need of mental health services are going to feel welcomed and will come seeking the services they need. That’s what this is all about.”
The new facility will offer an array of services to help individuals in crisis, including same-day assessments with recommendations for care, de-escalation, stabilization and safety planning. Other services, such as medication management and individual and group therapy will be available for individuals seeking ongoing support after a behavioral health crisis.
“We hope that we can continue to do the work that we do across North Carolina in other communities – such as Person County. We want to make sure that everyone in this community gets the services they need when they need them,” said Sandy Feutz, Chief Operating Officer for RHA Health Services.
RHA Health Services provides services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), behavioral health and substance use needs in North Carolina and beyond.
