Vaya Health is honored to stand with the nation in paying tribute to veterans who have served selflessly to ensure the safety and freedom of others.
Vaya maintains a year-round commitment to North Carolina’s military community by providing critical support and care through ongoing partnerships with the NCServes network and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). As a dedicated partner and provider of the NCServes network, Vaya works alongside NCDHHS to provide care and develop essential resources for North Carolina’s military community.
NCServes is North Carolina’s first coordinated network of public, private, and nonprofit organizations working together to serve veterans, service members, and their families. The network organization provides health benefits navigation, clothing and household goods, employment, food assistance, housing and shelter, income support, individual and family support, legal services, money management, and physical health.

Throughout National Veterans Month in November, Vaya care managers participated in Stand Down events in Caldwell, Macon, and Yancey counties – providing additional resources and supplies to veterans impacted by Hurricane Helene. Stand Down events connect local veterans with health care referrals, benefits consultation, legal education, mental health and substance use counsel, spiritual guidance, employment help, housing assistance, and more.
Vaya’s commitment to veterans extends beyond a single day or month. Ongoing veteran initiatives include:
- Participating regularly in the Charles George VAMC Veterans Service Organization (VSO) quarterly meetings to strengthen collaboration with Veterans Affairs partners.
- Engaging with the Buncombe County Veteran Treatment Court – a voluntary, intensive treatment court military veterans charged with misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor, or felony offenses who are struggling with addiction, mental illness, and/or co-occurring disorders.
- Partnering with Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) to establish a direct line for eligible veterans to connect with specialized Care Management services.
