As a student at Western Carolina University in 2013, David spent a lot of time thinking about his future. After completing a two-year postsecondary program, his plans were like most other college graduate’s: find a job and find a place to live.
“We had a pediatrician who told us that the only person who would limit David was us,” said David’s mother. “And so we decided when he was two weeks old that we would not limit him and his destiny. When he graduated, of course, the expectation was that he would have his own place, and I was scared. I didn’t know how we were going to make that work.”
With the help of David’s program director at WCU and his care coordinator at Vaya Health, the family connected with the team at SimplyHome. Headquartered in Asheville, SimplyHome provides innovative solutions for independent living. Their customizable systems are tailored to meet each customer’s specific needs. In David’s home, sensors track activity remotely, providing support without intrusion. David’s mother can view sensor activity by logging on to a secure website—a feature that provides virtual and literal peace of mind.
